Root-knot Nematode problems in Groundnut
Root-knot Nematode, Meloidogyne arenaria
Symptoms:
Above ground
- Yellowing and chlorosis of leaves.
- Stunted growth of plants.
- Wilting of the plants during mid-day.
- Plant death occurs when nematodes interact with fungal pathogens.
Below ground
- Appearance of bead-like galls on the roots and pegs.
- Single or multiple wart-like growths on pods.
- Malformed pods under severe infestation.
Management:
- Crop rotation with non-host crops such as maize, sorghum and cotton.
- Application of biocontrol agent, Purpureocillium lilacinum (Paecilomyces lilacinus) at the rate of 5 kg / ha along with 250 kg of well decomposed FYM
