I would like to know the information regarding crop yield competition?

To inculcate healthy and competitive spirit among the farmers for increasing the productivity of crops by adopting the advanced scientific techniques, Crop Yield Competitions are conducted at the State Level as well as at the District level on Paddy, Groundnut, Cholam, Cumbu, Greengram and Blackgram and prizes are awarded. The prize amounts given are as follows: (Unit in Rs.)

How can I enrol myself for the crop yield competition?

The farmer willing to enrol themselves for the crop yield competition has to pay the enrolment fee. The enrolment fee for Paddy and Groundnut crops at State level is Rs.100 and for other crops Rs. 50 /-. Similarly for Paddy and Groundnut crops at District level the enrolment fee is Rs.50/- and for other crops it is Rs. 25/-.

My land is a constraint land with high salinity, I would like to know whether I could avail any subsidy for saline reclamation?

Yes, there is scheme for Saline and Alkaline Land Reclamation. This scheme, aims at reclaiming problem lands in 8 districts, which are having large extent of problem areas and thereby to increase productivity of soil. A subsidy of 50% for the supply of input like gypsum and zinc-sulphate is given to the farmers. Moreover a 100% subsidy for providing drainage facility subject to the maximum of Rs.1000/Acre are also given to the farmers.

I came to know that micronutrient is more essential for crop production. Can I get micronutrient mixture at subsidised rate?

Yes, The Micro Nutrient Mixtures are produced by the Department at Kudumianmalai in Pudukkottai district and distributed by extension functionaries through 880 Agricultural Extension Centres. Annually 1250 MTs of Micronutrient Mixtures are distributed.

What are the benefits of green manure? Can I get green manure seeds at subsidised rate?

To build up the soil health, micro organism and water holding capacity, the Green Manure Seeds are produced and distributed at 25% subsidy. It also fixes atmospheric nitrogen in the soil through root nodules.

Biofertilizers were sold at higher price in private agro centres. Can I get biofertilizers at subsidised rate?

Biofertilizers were issued at your nearby ADA office at subsidised rate. Azospirillum and Phosphobacteria weighing about 200 g are issued at subsidised rate of Rs.6.

I would like to know the benefits of Blue green algae. Can I get blue green algae at the nearest extension centre?

Blue Green Algae a self- supporting biological Nitrogen fixing source will absorb and fixes atmospheric nitrogen in the soil. The Blue Green Algae is produced in State Seed Farms and distributed to the ryots at subsidised rate of Rs.2.75/kg through Agricultural Extension Centres.

I like to compost my farm waste, but I am unaware of the composting technology. Is there any training conducted related composting technology?

To popularise the technology of vermi composting 100 demonstrations are being laid in the State. 5000 farmers are being trained by giving one day training at 50 farmers per center. An allowance of Rs. 50/ head is paid to the participant. The scheme is being implemented in all the districts in the State except Nilgiris

Can I get the guidance and inputs for composting?

The farmers are being supplied with one kg of pluerotus and 5 kgs of urea along with a literature at a cost of Rs.140 per kit. Each kit worth Rs.140/- is being supplied to 2,000 farmers at a cost of Rs.2.80 lakhs. The production of compost by use of this kit will be done under the technical supervision of the extension staff.

I had a plan to construct a vermicompost yard, can I get financial assistance or input from the government side?

Yes, the state agricultural department supplies input for Rs.1200/farmer.

I like to know the nutrient status of my land and hence I like to test my soil. What is the charge for per sample?

            N,P,K analysis – Rs.5
            Micronutrient analysis – Rs.5

My sugarcane field is infested with internode borers, is there any biological control measures for it and can I get the input from the extension centre?

The yield of Sugarcane is greatly reduced when it is affected by Internode Borer. The pest is controlled effectively by the release of a parasite named Trichogramma. The parasites are multiplied in 21 Parasites Breeding Centres functioning near sugar mills area. Annually 10500 ha. are covered under this scheme. The parasites were supplied at cost of Rs.35.75/ ha. The provision made is towards recurring cost of production of para­sites.

My cotton field is infested with boll worm, suggest me a biocontrol measure and the source of input.

Cotton crop is predominantly affected by Prodenia which causes severe damage to the cotton crops. The spraying of NPV (Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus) is found to be an effective biological control measure for the control of prodenia. The NPV is being produced in the Parasite Breeding Centres at Gobichettipalayam in Erode district, Melur in Madurai district and Villupuram in Villupuram district. The required NPV/ha is supplied at Rs 53 at the nearest ADA office.

I like to plant few coconut seedlings at the border of my field. Where can I get the seedlings and at what cost?

Coconut seedlings were supplied to the coconut growers through Agricultural Extension Centres at a reasonable price so as to bring more area under coconut plantation. The cost of tall seedling is Rs.12 and tall x dwarf is Rs20. The provision under this scheme is towards cost of seed nuts, transport charges, etc.,
