Innovative Practices in Farming

    Krishnamoorthy has adopted drip irrigation in his coconut and banana cultivation. Through drip irrigation, he delivers water directly to the root zones of his coconut palms and banana plants, ensuring they receive the optimal amount of moisture without wastage.

Farming Practices

             Coconuts and bananas are planted with the recommended spacing. He uses both organic and inorganic method of fertilizers. The manures and fertilizers are applied in the circular basins. Green manure crops are also applied.

Intercropping

     The farmer has recently cultivated arecanut seedlings as intercrop and irrigation of arecanut seedlings is managed by drip irrigation.

Pest and Disease Management

     The farmer has adopted an integrated approach in managing the pests and diseases. For controlling pests like pseudostem weevil in banana and rhinoceros beetle in coconut traps have been installed. For managing diseases and spots on leaves and other pests chemical pesticides and fungicides are been used.

                                                               


Benefits and Impact

     Drip irrigation not only conserves water but also minimizes the risk of diseases and rot, which can occur from overwatering. Additionally, the targeted delivery of water reduces weed growth around the plants, further conserves resources and reduces the need for manual weeding. As a result, he has observed healthier plants, improved fruit quality, and enhanced yields.
