TAMIL NADU TIMBER TRANSIT RULES 
        The following Acts and Rules  regulate tree felling and transport of timber in Tamil Nadu. 
        
          
            - 
              
Tamil Nadu Preservation of Private Forest       Act, 1949.  
             
            - 
              
Tamil Nadu Hill Areas (Preservation of Trees) Act, 1955.  
             
            - 
              
Tamil Nadu Hill Stations (Preservation of Trees) Amendment Act,       1979. 
             
           
         
         
        TREE FELLING IN HILLS & PRIVATE FORESTS 
           
          To cut any trees in the areas  notified under Tamil Nadu Hill Areas (Preservation of Trees) Act 1955 and Tamil  Nadu Preservation Private Forest Act 1949, prior permission should be obtained  from the committee constituted under the said Act, under the Chairmanship of  District Collector concerned. Petitions for cutting trees are decided by the  committee, which may meet as often as necessary and shall not be more than two  months between two meetings. 
         
         
        SCHEDULE TIMBER 
             
          According to  Tamil Nadu Forest Act 1882, the following tree species are notified as  Scheduled Timber. 
        
          
            - 
              
Black wood. 
             
            - 
              
Red Sanders. 
             
            - 
              
Rosewood. 
             
            - 
              
Sandalwood. 
             
            - 
              
Teakwood. 
             
           
         
         By section 15 of the Tamil Nadu Hill Stations  (Preservation of Trees) Amendment Act, 1979, it has been provided as follows: 
             
              “Reference to the Tamil Nadu Hill  Station (Preservation of Trees) Act, in any Act or in any rule, notification  proceeding, order, regulation, by law or other instrument made or issued under  the Principal Act shall be constructed as references to the Tamil Nadu Hill  Area (Preservation of Trees) Act.“
