DRUMSTICK

  • Drumstick plants are pinched off ('Uchhi kolundukilludal') when they are at 4 - 5 feet height so as to facilitate more branching.
  • Place finger shaped asafoetida just deep into the soil near the roots of drumstick trees to control hairy caterpillars.
  • Crop wastes and other residues are burnt around the base of the drumstick tree to control hairy caterpillar.
  • Three ratoon crops are obtained from annual drumstick

CUCUMBER

  • About 10 kg. of groundnut cake is soaked overnight and in the next morning this solution is poured @ 200 ml. /hill to get more yields. Ash is sprinkled on cucumber crop to control aphids and powdery mildew.
  • Cucumber seeds are extracted from fully ripened fruits, washed well with water, mixed with ash, dried and stored up to one year

SNAKE GOURD

  • Soaking the seeds of snake gourd in cow dung solution for 6hour before sowing helps for early germination and withstanding drought conditions.
  • Asapfoetida is dissolved in water @ 25g. per lit and sprayed to control flower dropping.
  • After the harvest of snake guard, cabbage foliage is ploughed in-situ to serve as a manure
