Ramnad Gundumalli (Jasminum Sambac)
Ramnad gundumalli can able to grow well in sandy soils with less irrigation i.e. two irrigations per week. The name itself it is grown in Ramnad district. The crop withstands for 4 years and is sown at 2.5x2.5m interval. Usually marginal and small farmers are used 20 cents or 30 cents area for raising the crop. As December-January is the rainy season, no picking is done. In January, all leaves are completely removed to grow new leaves. From February to June, flower pickings are done and mainly 8 kg flowers are plucked in every day during season time and are exported to Ramnad & Madurai. The market rate is Rs.40/-. The cuttings are done in thrice a year. In one time, 15000 cuttings are cut down. (1 cutting = Rs.0.80 to 1). Only goat manure is applied in the field. Initially cuttings are kept inside coconut leaves, but recent times cuttings are grown small greenhouse chamber (inner Plastic /outer green sheet) and irrigation is done to maintain heat and coolingness.
