Jaivic Chhabutra (On farm Kitchen)
Introduction
Heavy use of chemicals in agriculture has weakened the ecological base in addition to degradation of soil, water resources and quality of food. At this juncture, a keen awareness has sprung on the adoption to degradation of “Organic Farming” as a ready to cure the ill effects of modern chemical agriculture. The traditional organic inputs are one of the effective alternative s tool to repair the damages of soil health by recharging of organic carbon in soil will be the helping tool for sustainable soil health and disturbed ecological resources. Organic farming practices are among the broad-spectrum method, which is supportive and congenial to the ecological farm balance. Increasing toxic residues in food and water, decreasing nutritional qualities of food, increasing pollution in air, soil, water and deteriorating production potential of soil is also one of the alarming issue. Javic Chhabutra (on farm kitchen): a concept for repairing the damages of soil health that can support to organic farmers for the risk of yield declination during converting into organic farming.
Organic farming system which has environmental sustainability at its core is gradually becoming mainstream in agriculture. The nutrient need of organic agriculture mainly depends on on-farm input produces, which may locally available and safe too. Under organic farming production system, crop residue plays a critical role in nutrient transformation, soil health and for sustaining the productivity of soils.
Environment in largest sense is the complex network of physical, chemical, biological and ecological components that make up the natural world. Human activities commonly affect the distribution, quantity and quality of every environmental aspect be it:
Socio-economic revolutions lead to industrialization and in order to cope up with increasing demand of food and products, man created high yielding variety of food grains which are highly responsive to chemicals, fertilize and water, with lesser nutritive values, which leads to weaker state to health and mind. Technology although have provided better medicinal and transport facilities along with Information Technology (IT) in order to make human life easy to “Live and Entertain”. “The second face is the harmful effect along with depletion of our Mother Earth in every aspect”. But the emerging nutrients deficiency in soil, affects on Plant, Animal and Human, which is not easy to repair smoothly.
A suitable model, which may really simple, reliable, cost effective and should not meet the needs of organic production system, through farmers domestic material available basis in the home/society or nearby without purchase from market or factories. Or such tool, that can avoid the chances of repay the loan taken for input purchase. Since, long back, it was the pain of the author for farmers straggle those even after taken loan for purchasing inputs does not in position to repay. The concept of Jaivic Chhabutra originated by Sh. Jagat Singh while at Regional Centre for Organic Farming (RCOF) Hisar with the help of several local farmers nearby Hisar, Haryana. The concept consisting as Jaivic Chhabutra is a low cost sustainable agriculture input production platform. Under which use of locally and easily available natural resources helpful for agriculture production and care of soil health, which is very important and a common farmer can understand as well establish it easily for soil nourishment. It is a platform to establish above ground level with approximate size of 20x15x1.5 ft. it can be established in open or in shade according to availability of space.
Although this concept is just three year old and tested in 27 villages in 9 blocks of Hisar, Haryana district with 675 farmers, but the result has astonished by the other farmers of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar pradesh, Bihar, Uttarkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujrat, Himachal Pradesh and other states till 2014. The concept on working model has functioning so satisfied with the performance and practicability of Jaivic Chhabutra (On-Farm Kitchen) on Organic Farming as well as under conventional agriculture practices. It is a philosophical novel and innovative concept.
Important inputs procured at farm, are Panchakavya, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Fresh and Old Lassi (Butter milk). Biosols, Biodynamic compost, Cow pat pit, Compost tea, Vermicompost, Vermiwash, Sanjivak, Amrit Tika, Banyan tree soil and Cow Urine, Cow placenta culture, Fresh cow urine, Fresh Milk, Neemastra, Dashparni satt, Ginger Garlic chilly Chatani (paste), Aganhotra, etc.
Complete workable model of Jaivic Chhabutra was tested on the base of 40 different parameters on different aspects of agriculture production, soil health quality, taste etc and found positive performance on good water holding capacity, early emergence, good germination, better number of tillers and branches, stem thickness, number of flowers and fruit setting, biomass production, better root establishment and its extension, taste, soil microbial load buildup, better soil organic carbon, fast crop residue decomposition insitu, comparable sustainable productivity to conventional production system, reduced wilting problem in cotton compared to conventional crop, food quality and nutrient contents based on test weight was better, dry matter content, total root length, effect of earthworm population in soil, soil fertility column depth, disease and insect infestation, water saving, beneficial insect/parasite population buildup, plant protection measures, fodder quality and regular cutting performance, fodder taste and animals feeding response, cost of production reduced due to minimum purchased of inputs from market.
The idea of Jaivic Chhabutra has been conceptualized by Sh. Jagat Singh of Regional Centre for Organic Farming, Hisar now at punchulla Haryana. Studied and resulted that there are different, effective and scattered formulation in agriculture and are although available throughout the country and these formulations are adopted by progressive, innovative and organic farmers in different situations but there is no model which overcome all the problems of organic agriculture on a single platform. Author churns out all the possible Formulations, Tactis, Sanskars etc. and resulted in a new innovative concept of Jaivic Chhabutra, which may have the capacity to fulfill maximum the needs of soil, plant and nutrition management at a single platform for every farmer.
Jaivic Chhabutra, was conceptualized to provide “Life-Glucose” for the “Dying-Soil”. The components of Jaivic Chhabutra are based on four diminutions such as Seed treatment, Soil nourishment, Plant health buildup and Pest management has all succeeded as life –line to the process and with completion of continues crop seasons in field. It has been realized that the basic theme with, which it was formulized has achieved its demarcation line in terms of Re-charging the soil health, Enhancing the Water Holding Capacity (WHC), Synchronizing the Weed –Pattern, Stabilizing the microbial load and Organic Carbon (OC), as well as maintaining the biodiversity of soil with lesser infestation of insects &diseases attack. The innovative idea of Jaivic Chhabutra, which has now become a household term, (a system of input plateform production unit with locally available resources with no cost at farmers field itself), who are opting for organic farming practices. Till date the concept of Jaivik Chhabutra has been adopted and practiced by more than thousands farmers of northern state of country with overwhelming response and the results so obtained are so much satisfying. |
